Our Final Post from UNCW Storytellers Troupe of 2015: Ending at College Park

We were so excited to have our final performance at College Park Elementary to end the season.

The UNCW Storytellers first performance in the early 1980s was at College Park Elementary. They have been long time supporters of the troupe and are always wonderful hosts. We were greeted warmly  by Principal Greene before performing for Kindergarten and 1st grade. Our audiences were excited and engaged with fabulous questions. We had a wonderful last performance and a wonderful semester.

Have a wonderful holiday season and stay tuned for information on the Hawk Tale Players and new performance troupe that is still yet to be named will perform for the first time next semester.

Wrightsville Beach Elementary

On November 18th, the UNCW Storytellers had the grand pleasure of visiting and performing for Wrightsville Beach Elementary. We were greeted warmly by teachers and students, who acted as our guides to our classrooms! We performed for 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. The students loved joining us in our imaginary worlds and performing the actions with the characters. After the stories, they asked extremely intelligent questions! Thank you to Wrightsville Beach for allowing this opportunity! We can't wait to perform for you again. Below you can watch Ashleigh tell "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" by John Scieszka.

Milestones

This week we had a much younger audience than usual. We performed for the Pre-K group at Milestones this week and needless to say, we had a lot of fun. The kids were full of energy and excitement as they prepared to hear our stories. The kids were marvelous to work with and made a great audience for the stories we had for them. We look forward to possibly performing for this group again in the future.

Snipes Academy

This week, the UNCW Storytellers traveled to Snipes Academy. We were immediately welcomed by involved teachers AND students. Students were active and incredibly attentive as they listened and participated to the various stories we had to tell. Teachers responded with great feedback that was very helpful to our Storytellers! The video below is Luke performing his story "Dragon's Love Tacos" by Adam Rubin . We look forward to coming back next year!

Winter Park Elementary

This past week we had the pleasure of performing for a variety of classrooms in all different grades! The teachers and staff were extremely welcoming and appreciative of our stories! The students reacted with such excitement and enthusiasm. Their faces lit up as they performed the actions throughout each story. Some of the students had even remembered some of our performers from the previous year! Thank you Winter Park for being a wonderful host and for allowing this opportunity! We can't wait to perform for you guys again next year! Below you can watch one of our Assistant Directors, Whitney, perform her story The Perfect Nest by Catherine Friend.

Forest Hills

We really enjoyed our time at Forest Hills this week. Our audience consisted of the entire grade of Kindergarten and we had a fantastic lively audience. The students had wonderful enthusiasm and we're always ready to listen to another storyteller each time a story was finished. The participation from each classroom was very impressive. We can't wait to visit Forest Hills again next year. Below you can watch a video of Nate, one of our fellow storytellers, telling us the story 50 Degrees Below Zero.

Mary C. Williams

This week, we had the privilege of performing at Mary C. Williams Elementary! We were immediately welcomed and embraced by faculty and staff, who clearly were excited for the day ahead. The students brought energy, interaction, and enthusiasm to each and every story that was told. The troop thoroughly enjoyed every part of what Mary C. Williams had to offer. The featured video below is Jared performing his story "Alexander, who used to be rich last Sunday " by Judith Viorst.  A big thank you to faculty and staff for hosting us and being so kind and inviting. We can not wait to perform again next year!

Alderman Elementary

On Wednesday October 7th, the UNCW Storytellers had our first performances at Alderman Elementary. What an amazing first experience! We were welcomed by the teachers and staff with smiling faces. We performed for children from Kindergarten to fifth grade. This video is of our Storyteller Talene performing Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. Chrysanthemum is a story about bullying and having confidence in yourself. The children were lively, engaged, willing to listen and participate.
