UNCW Hawk Tale Player of the Week: Alejandro Lopez

Now this is a story all about how his life got flipped turned upside down. We’d like to take a minute just listen to us speak, tell you all about how Alejandro became the Hawk Tale Player of the Week. Born in Colombia, South America and immigrating to the United States by the age of four, Alejandro grew up and lived in Charlotte, NC most of his life. Whenever he isn’t working at Journeys selling socks or doing schoolwork, Alejandro is managing his local clothing brand, Good Fortunes Apparel. As a Sophomore student and Communication Studies major here at UNCW Alejandro, Alejandro loves making people happy and meeting new people. He is excited to work with the Hawk Tale Players to spread some joy and quality story telling to the Wilmington area.

Hawk Tale Player of the Week: February 14 Maggie Holland

Maggie Holland is UNCW Hawk Tale Player of the Week
Maggie is a junior at UNCW double majoring in Communication Studies and English. She has lived in Wilmington all of her life but hopes to travel more in the future. In her free time she enjoys reading, watching new shows on Netflix, and spending time with her friends and family. Maggie is excited to be a member of the Hawk Tale Players and is looking forward to sharing her stories with others.

UNCW Hawk Tale Player of the Week: Cole  Diehl

Cole grew up in Cedarville Michigan. He is an avid athlete who plays football, wrestling , and hockey. He also coached teams. While in school at UNCW, he enjoys his job at the ARC of North Carolina where he works with people of disabilities while rooting for New England Patriots football and Red Wings Hockey. He is excited to use his talents to teach kids about life in the Michigan wilderness generations ago.

Hawk Tale Player of the Week: Damien Capps
Damien is a Film Studies and Communication Studies double major at UNCW. Damien has a passion for telling stories, particularly through film. He has worked on many professional and student films, and is the Producer of the CIE Media Team. He hopes to one day produce and direct Hollywood blockbusters. In addition to film, Damien regularly practices Tae Kwon Do. In 2015 he tested for and reached the rank of 4th degree (master). He is excited to follow his passion for storytelling through the UNCW Hawktale Players.

UNCW Hawk Tale Player of the Week: Jenna Smith

Jenna is a Senior at UNCW earning her degree in Communication Studies with a focus in marketing. She is from a small town called Ammon, NC where she grew up on a blueberry farm. Jenna has always enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle. Hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers, horseback riding, kayaking, hiking and anything that involves the outdoors is where you will find Jenna in her free time. She loves spending time with her two dogs and has an obsession for whales, especially Beluga whales (as pictured with Aurek, the Beluga Whale). She has currently become a volunteer at the Good Shepard Center and is in the process of becoming a “Big Buddy” to an at-risk child. The Big Buddy Program is located downtown Wilmington and is always looking for volunteers. Every Tuesday night Jenna enjoys going to Port City Community Church with her friends for college worship. She plans to finish school in the fall with two internships and graduate in December. Her experience at UNCW has been and continues to be spectacular. One of her greatest achievements was joining the UNCW Storytellers, fall 2016, where she could interact with children and give them a story to laugh about and enjoy. She is now a UNCW Hawk Tale Player and is excited to bring her own story to life and looks forward to spending time with the kids.

Storytelling Alumna Keep Telling Stories: Focus on Hannah Brewer

UNCW Storytelling Alumna and Assistant Director for the Fall 2012 Troupe, and the Outstanding Performance Achievement Recipient for 2013, Hannah Brewer, is still telling stories for a living. She stopped by to interview UNCW Storytelling Director, Dr. Julie-Ann Scott about how she budgets for buying for three little boys. Hannah took over the troupe with fellow assistant director Casey Mills for the week Dr. Scott's second son, Vinny was born and hasn't seen him since he was a newborn. Vinny was so excited to meet the storyteller who tells one of his favorite stories, Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann. Watch the interview below.
